Roquetas de Mar & Almería
Roquetas de Mar is a friendly, laid-back resort town on the Mediterranean coast of Almería province in the southern region of Andalucía, Spain.
The town is situated about 18kms along the coast from the provincial capital of Almería, nestled between the Sierra Gador mountains and the Mediterranean.
With more hours of sunshine than any other place in Europe and five Blue Flag beaches this is a great holiday destination all year round.
45 minutes drive to the north of Roquetas de Mar, in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, lies the beautiful mountain area of the Alpujarras, famous for its produce and perfect for hiking.
To the east of Almería, and about an hour's drive from Roquetas de Mar, is the Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park, with its lunar landscape, crystal clear waters and secluded beaches.
Comunicación Language School is situated in the west of Roquetas de Mar town in the Urbanisation of Roquetas de Mar.
The "Urb" is a tourist centre with lots of hotels, apartments, restaurants, tapas bars, a golf course and a long Blue Flag beach, all within walking distance of each other.
Once a sleepy fishing village, Roquetas de Mar has grown into a town of more than 65 000 people. The town has good beaches and many modern facilities, including a new theatre/auditorium, a large shopping complex and a bullring.
There is a small commercial and sport fishing port, with some great bars and restaurants along the promenade. The newly restored Castillo Santa Ana and adjacent ampitheatre host exhibitions and cultural events throughout the year.
Almería is an atmospheric port city with a North African feel. The city is overlooked by the Alcazaba, an impressive Moorish fortress dating from AD 995.
The old town is a warren of narrow streets interspersed with tranquil squares. There are many good restaurants, tapas bars and Arab tea shops to enjoy.
Almería airport, which is 30 minutes from the school, is served by many major airlines including British Airways, Iberia, Ryanair and EasyJet.
